The court in Vietnam has sentenced Tpyong Mai Lan to death. She is among the richest women in Asia and has committed the largest property fraud in the history of the country worth 304 trillion. dong, or 12.5 billion USD.
Lan was found guilty of embezzlement, bribery and banking violations. The trial, which took place in Ho Chi Minh City, ended in record time – just over a month. During it, it becomes clear that Lan and her accomplices siphoned off the huge amount from the Sаіgon Іоіnt Ѕstосk Соmmerсіаl Ванk (ЅСВ). The bank was controlled by her through proxies.
The huge amount was drained by granting loans to “hollow” companies. A banking supervisor was bribed to the tune of USD 5.2 million to stay out of trouble. However, this will now cost him life in prison.
Lan's story is worthy of a feature film. He started his career as a beautician. In 1992, he founded the construction company Van Thinh Hat. Subsequently, he created many more companies, but the main one remained Van Thіnh Phat.
A total of 84 people were convicted during the trial, including Lan's relatives.
