The University of Architecture, Construction and Geodesy (UASG) through the National Center for Seismic Engineering organizes an international "Earthquake Engineering Forum 24" on the topic "Current problems of seismic engineering", which starts at 1:30 p.m. today in the NCSI hall, the Center announced, BTA reported.

The forum is in five panels and includes a doctoral workshop, a scientific seminar, a scientific conference "EnviroRisks 2024", a national round table and popular educational talks with secondary school students.

The content of the scientific reports and presentations is focused on the consequences of the devastating earthquakes of February 2023 in neighboring Turkey and the lessons for our country.

The past year 2023 will go down in history as the year of the strongest earthquakes and with the most victims that occurred in the countries of the Balkan Peninsula in our recent history, note the organizers of the forum. The earthquakes of February 6 in Eastern Turkey and Syria catalyzed the work of various state, municipal and educational structures in the direction of reducing the risk of disasters and earthquakes in particular.

The National Center for Seismic Engineering at UASG, as a "nationally significant institute that works to progressively reduce seismic risk", adequately responded to its role in the context of the dramatic events in Turkey and formed a National Expert Team of Seismic Engineering Specialists , who conducted a working visit at the end of May last year to the territories affected by the earthquake, the Center reminds. During the past year, experts from the Center worked on the preparation of materials related to the lessons for our country from the seismic event that occurred.

Today's forum will be attended by experts from state and municipal structures, educational and scientific institutions, guests from Turkey, China, Germany, North Macedonia, etc.

The Forum is partially funded by the National Science Infrastructure Roadmap 2020-2027, of which the National Center for Seismic Engineering is a strategic member.
