Boom in phone scams in Plovdiv region: Over 90,000 leva fly over terraces - 1

A series of phone scams, in which the perpetrators pose as police officers, have been carried out in recent days on the territory of the ODMVR - Plovdiv. According to the signals received every day from March 1 to 4, a total of over 90 thousand leva and valuables were taken from the victims, elderly people over 75 years old.

In three of the cases, they were thrown over terraces, and in the fourth - handed over to a courier.

Misled that he was assisting the police in an operation to arrest phone scammers, an elderly man from Asenovgrad parted with about 64 thousand leva. He dropped the large sum from the terrace of his apartment after a phone conversation with a stranger who introduced himself as an employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Under the same pretext, the criminals received a package with 12,000 leva, 1,200 dollars and many gold ornaments from a pensioner from Plovdiv. Meanwhile, the telephone scammers again introduced themselves as police inspectors to two other victims, a woman from Plovdiv and a woman from Asenovgrad. However, their request for money was related to a serious accident caused by a close relative.

One of the women threw 13,000 leva from the terrace of her apartment, and the other personally handed over 2,300 leva to an unknown man. Within the framework of the pre-trial proceedings initiated under the supervision of the prosecutor's office, active actions have been taken to identify the participants in the crimes.
