The meteorologists on duty at the Murgash peak station were attacked on Sunday night.
According to initial information, an unknown man entered through the window and beat up Rumyana and Georgi Zlatanovi. However, they managed to escape and seek help at a nearby hut. The two were admitted for treatment at the "Tsaritsa Ioanna" hospital in Sofia.
The hospital told NOVA that the two are in stable condition. The attacker has already been detained for 72 hours. He is a 32-year-old man. He has been charged with causing bodily harm to officials.
The beaten meteorologists are out of danger. The woman is 60 years old and the man is 65 years old. According to the victim, the two were beaten with a spit. She was hit on the chest and head and had her teeth knocked out, the man was kicked in the face and body, reports Nova TV.
The NIMH explained that there was no security at the site. Such an incident has never happened before. Because of the situation, they are considering introducing automatic monitoring of the stations.
