The police and the prosecutor's office gave details to the media about the case of the severely beaten meteorologists on Mount Murgash.
"Around 01:00 on March 9, in the dark of the day, a signal was received on 112 about a beating of employees from the meteorological station on Mount Murgash. A man climbs onto the roof and then reaches the window on the third floor of the station via the visor, breaks it, enters, and brutally beats the man and woman - they are seriously injured. Tongs and a stove spit were used, blows were inflicted with hands repeatedly, and the man lost consciousness. They managed to escape through the window on the first floor and went to the nearby Murgash hut," reported the deputy head of the Fifth Police Station, Iliya Kuzmanov, quoted by dariknews.bg.

The police also indicated that a 32-year-old man was detained who was in the area of the meteorological station, inside, he offered fierce resistance, his motives are not clear, there is no evidence of a mental disorder or that he used any substances - alcohol or drugs.

"The man is quite non-contact, with sudden changes in behavior, riots and refuses medical help. He does not live in the area of the station, his presence there is absolutely illogical. He lives in Sofia, in a central area. Illogical behavior, illogical place, illogical actions, but there is a lot of cruelty in inflicting the beating," added the law enforcement authorities.

An investigation into the case is underway, and at the moment the prosecutor's office does not want to speculate on versions.

"The case is literally worthy of a Stephen King novel", said the spokesman for the Sofia District Prosecutor's Office (SPO), Nikolay Nikolaev.

"The SPO immediately reported the pre-trial proceedings yesterday, the detainee is charged with causing moderate bodily harm. The penalty for such an act is up to 6 years, but this is a working charge, the nature of the injuries of both victims is yet to be established and this charge may be further specified. The accused has been detained for a period of up to 72 hours, a request for a "detention in custody" measure against him is pending," Nikolaev added.
