A car crashed and overturned on "Metodi Andonov" Street in the "Musagenitsa" neighborhood of the capital, where two schools are located next to each other - 8th Secondary School "Vasil Levski" and "Ivan Apostolov" Secondary School. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon near the fence of the private educational institution, and local residents are glad that it was a day off and that the students were on spring break, because otherwise there could have been innocent victims. The reason for this is that the sidewalk along the street is broken, in places it is even missing, as a result of which people, especially mothers with strollers, are forced to walk on the street.
“Many drivers drive around the neighborhood at an inappropriate speed. At the same time, the sidewalks around the two schools have not been repaired for decades, and the broken pavement, obstacles and mud force pedestrians to go out onto the street next to the cars, which endangers their lives every day. A month ago, another accident occurred just meters from the scene of the accident - a head-on collision between two cars, fortunately, there were no casualties, said Stefka Dimitrova, a resident of the neighborhood. - We have filed dozens of reports through the contact center of the Sofia Municipality that the sidewalks around the 8th school need repair. And not only them - there is no normal pedestrian access up to 12th grade of the “Lilia”. There, too, the sidewalks are broken or taken over by cars parked on them. We have repeatedly visited the open receptions of the mayor of the "Studentski" district, Petko Goranov, but the result so far is nothing - only empty promises. Does a person have to die or, God forbid, a child, for them to remember that the sidewalks around educational institutions must be made safe. In all the neighborhoods that are part of the "Studentski" district, sidewalks are being repaired, only in ours. Nothing is being done. Our patience has run out, people are dissatisfied and are ready to protest. Do we have to go out on the street with posters for some measures to be taken. Does a person have to lose their life for them to understand that it is not normal not to have usable sidewalks around the school in our neighborhood. The SO program for sidewalks started 2 and a half years ago, and the "Studentski" district received 5.6 million. leva on it. Why hasn't this money reached “Musagenitsa” yet. When will there be new sidewalks on “Metodi Andonov” and “Boyan Danovski” ul., with anti-parking pegs and safe for pedestrians?”.
“An urgent response from the local administration is needed. The sidewalks must be repaired, and parking on the grass areas - prohibited, where applicable. Around the market and educational institutions, complete chaos occurs in the morning and evening, because everyone parks “for a while” where it is convenient for them. It is already obvious that inaction is not an option!”, wrote Gavril Gavrilov in one of the neighborhood groups on Facebook.
“In addition to sidewalks, it is very important to build pedestrian paths around schools!”, added Mira Andonova.
“On the bend every day, all the children in the neighborhood risk their lives, and not only children, everyone passing by...and this is one of the few examples...not to mention that there are absolutely no conditions for mothers with strollers”, joined the dissatisfied and Krasimira Georgieva.
“I want to invite Mr. Petko Goranov, mayor of the "Studentski" district, Sofia, to walk along this sidewalk, I will let him push a baby stroller and see how far and how we will get!”, wrote Alexander Arizanov.
