The unlicensed driver who caused a serious accident with two victims this morning on the “Trakia“ highway has been detained for 24 hours, NOVA learned. The man tested positive for alcohol – 1.74 per mille in his exhaled breath
After an examination at the hospital, it was found that he had no serious injuries. The prosecutor's office is expected to decide whether to extend his detention to 72 hours. Pre-trial proceedings are underway against him for causing death by negligence, driving while intoxicated and without a license.
The identities of the deceased have been established – a 51-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman, both from Kostenets. They were traveling in a minibus that was hit by a car driven by the detainee. The impact caused the minibus to spin and collide with a TIR truck moving in front of it.
The driver of the car and his passenger were also transported to hospital, and their condition is not life-threatening. Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in the case, which is being conducted under the supervision of the Pazardzhik District Prosecutor's Office.
The incident occurred shortly after 6:00 a.m. in the area of the 58th kilometer of the highway, in the direction of Plovdiv. Traffic in the area was temporarily restricted and was carried out in one lane.
