By tradition, this year too, the music weeks of Sofia begin at the end of May. The festival has the honor to mark the special anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Sovereign Order of Malta with a solemn concert.
On this occasion in the hall “Bulgaria" on May 27, at 2:00 p.m., the press conference will be held, which will be attended by H.E. Ursula Hofter Dzukoli, ambassador of the Sovereign Order of Malta in Bulgaria and high-ranking guests and representatives of state and diplomatic institutions.
The anniversary will be celebrated on May 29 with a special concert "Splendour Musicus" on the theme of “Chivalry”. The Order of Malta is a very ancient order of chivalry founded in Jerusalem in the 11th century and during its history knights were also in Rhodes and Malta. After 1834, the Order's seat of government was in Rome, with a very small territory, but the Order numbered nearly 15,000 members and thousands of volunteers worldwide. Today it works in 120 countries, caring for people in need through medical, social and humanitarian projects. In Bulgaria, the order has implemented over 550 activities and donations in 250 different settlements.
The solemn concert dedicated to chivalry, under the title SPLENDOUR MUSICUS - Amor vel Roma, is a project of Virginia Atanasova, who is among the most prominent contemporary Bulgarian conductors, a specialist in the field of baroque music, which is why the program includes chivalric music by Handel, Vivaldi, Andre Gretry and Henry Purcell, and composer Atanas Atanasov prepares a special work inspired by the 13th-century minnesinger Wolfran von Eschenbach. The concert is part of the program of the Ministry of Music "Sofia Music Weeks"

The festival is part of the calendar of cultural events of the Sofia Municipality in 2024. The festival is the bearer of the quality label “Europe for festivals, festivals for Europe” of the European Festival Association.
