Bulgaria celebrates May 24 - the Day of the Bulgarian alphabet, education and culture and of Slavic literature. Demonstrations will take place in different cities, BNR reported.
On the occasion of the holiday, over 80 creators and artists from various fields of the arts were honored for their contribution to the development of Bulgarian culture and spirituality at a ceremony in the Ministry of Culture.
Among the awardees are the folk singer Valya Balkanska, the actor Rashko Mladenov, the director of the National Library docent Krasimira Alexandrova, the opera prima Sonia Yoncheva and the French singer of Bulgarian origin Sylvie Vartan.
In the afternoon, the traditional Spring Book Fair will be opened in the park in front of the National Palace of Culture, and in the evening, for the 33rd time, the Askeer theater awards will be presented, and actor Rusi Chanev will be honored for overall contribution.
Festive processions in which students will participate are coming today in Burgas, Sliven, Veliko Tarnovo and other cities. In Sofia, the head of state Rumen Radev will participate in a procession from the presidency to the National Library. At 6:30 p.m., he and his wife will host a holiday reception at the National History Museum.
