Seven new productions until December present to the public the National Theater „ Ivan Vazov“ in the 2024/2025 season, which starts in a few days. Among the premieres on our first stage in autumn are long-awaited performances such as „Medea” by director Declan Donelan, “A Doll's House, Part Two” – production by Yasen Peyankov, as well as “Darkness at the End of the City” directed by Catherine Medler.

After the success of “In the Solitude of the Cotton Fields“ last year the actor John Malkovich returned to the Bulgarian audience as the director of the anti-war play “The Weapons and the Man“ of Bernard Shaw.

And this year, the National Theater provides the audience with the opportunity to touch the work of famous foreign directors who are guests with their performances.

„Heavy rehearsals are underway for the upcoming premieres in October, November and December. The new performances are prepared by big names on the world stage such as John Malkovich, Declan Donelan, Catherine Medler, Yasen Peyankov. The audience can expect very different, serious and interesting interpretations of classical and contemporary theater texts, which with they will surely make a strong start to the new season," shared the main playwright of the National Theater, Mira Todorova.

The opening is on September 10 on the Big Stage with one of the favorite performances – “The Ideal Man”, watched by over 150,000 viewers since 2007. Director Thierry Arcour's production starring Julian Vergov, Vladimir Karamazov, Maria Kavardzhikova and other stars of the National Theater will once again show this unforgettable light comedy with serious content written by Oscar Wilde.

In September, the public will be presented with the two new premiere titles in the repertoire of the National Theater – “Constellations“ and “Baby on Board“.

„Constellations“ by Nick Payne directed by Elitsa Yovcheva will be presented on September 12 at the "Apostol Karamitev" Stage. The actors Nencho Kostov and Radina Dumanyan are participating. The day after, on September 13, the audience will be able to watch the second premiere for the 2024/2025 season – “Baby on board“ by Christopher Durang directed by Vasilena Radeva, which will be on Chamber Stage, with actors Iliana Kodzhabasheva, Sofia Bobcheva, Martina Peneva and Boyan Arsov.

In October, the premiere of the performance "Medea" will take place. based on Euripides by world-renowned theater director Declan Donelan and set designer Nick Ormerod. The role of Medea is played by the actress Radina Kardzhilova, who will partner with Velislav Pavlov, Valentin Ganev and other colleagues on stage. A new literal translation of the ancient Greek tragedy was ordered especially for the Bulgarian performance, which we will see in a different format in October.

The long-awaited premiere of the anti-war play “Guns and the Man“ by Bernard Shaw directed by John Malkovich will be in November. Rehearsals begin in October, and the play will feature actors from the National Theater troupe, who were chosen at a specially held casting call by John Malkovich and the play's scenographer – the Belgian artist Pierre-François Limbosch.

There are also international performances for the National Theater – on September 7, Chris Sharkov's performance “The Elementary Particles“ by Michel Welbeck will be presented at the Balkan Theater Festival in Nis, Serbia. “The Storm” by William Shakespeare, which at the end of last season won the respect of the audience and theater critics during the International Shakespeare Festival in Craiova, will be presented in the Georgian capital Tbilisi as part of the International Theater Festival on September 17 and 18.
