„But my songs will still be read...“
103 years ago, on September 22, 1921, the Bulgarian people said goodbye to their great son - the great writer, poet, playwright, journalist and public figure Ivan Vazov. Our people have great respect for the Patriarch of Bulgarian literature, who was the only one, and during his lifetime, honored with the title of “people's poet”. And for a whole century, his poems, novels, travelogues, dramas, essays, feuilletons, short stories have been the most valuable lesson in Bulgarian!
On this occasion, a solemn pilgrimage organized by the National Literary Museum took place in front of the towering ten-ton moraine at the grave of the great Bulgarian writer, in the garden behind the church "St. Sophia". The member of the Board of Directors of the Union of Bulgarian Writers, the poet Ivan Esenski, the writer Myumyun Tahirov, the literary critic and culturologist Prof. Mihail Nedelchev, the director of the NLM, Alexander Kapriev, the literary historian Dr. Katya Zografova, bowed their heads before the memory of the great Bulgarian poet. as well as relatives of the poet, including Prof. Anna Nikolova and Prof. Grigoriy Vazov.
The solemn worship began with the classic poem “My Songs” performed by the actor Stoyan Chobanov. Priest Cyril – the new head of the Church of St. Sofia offered the funeral prayer. Alexander Kapralov, Prof. Mikhail Nedelchev and Prof. Vanya Dobreva shared words about Ivan Vazov and the great importance of his literary and social work.
A group of students and teachers from the University of Library Science and Information Technology, led by the chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University - Prof. D.Sc. Stoyan Denchev. UniBIT turned out to be the only Bulgarian university and the only large scientific and cultural institution, which even today – the day of pilgrimage, but also three months ago – on Ivan Vazov's birthday – July 9, is present and patriotically pays his filial gratitude.
At the pilgrimage, not a single representative of the so-called management elite. Mayor Terziev was absent, as were municipal councilors. There were no representatives of the National Assembly, of the Ministry of Education and Science, in which Vazov is one of the first ministers, of the Ministry of Culture... Signs of respect were also missing from large cultural centers such as the National and Sofia Libraries, from large-scale scientific and educational centers - SU “St. Kliment Ohridski“ and BAS, to whose development Ivan Vazov made an indisputable contribution.
103 years ago, the pilgrimage to the mortal remains of the Patriarch of Bulgarian literature lasted for four days. The Bulgarian people, as well as the rulers, then realized that in the most difficult times of national crisis, of division and pessimism, Vazov's work was a pledge for the future of Bulgaria. Because love for the fatherland begins from Vazov!
