March 19 is the day of the holy martyrs Chrysanthemums and Daria, who were cruelly tortured and stoned for the Christian faith.

Chrysanthemums was the only son of the courtier Polemius of Alexandria. As the son of wealthy parents, he studied in various secular schools, and his teachers were the most educated thinkers of that time. But the wisdom of the world made him sad, since it could not give him an answer to the question - what is this truth. When Chrysanthemums' hands fell into the Gospel and the Book of Acts of the Apostles, he read them and was enlightened by the Truth - Christ. He sought a teacher and found him in the person of the priest Carpophorus, who guided him to the faith and baptized him.

This did not please Chrysanthus' father, who did everything to make him renounce the Christian faith. He forcibly married him to the girl Daria, who was a pagan. But Chrysanthus taught Daria - she accepted faith in Christ and the two lived together as brother and sister, in a sham marriage. After the death of his father, Chrysanthus began to freely confess Christ and live according to His commandments. During the time of Emperor Numerian, Chrysanthus and Daria were tortured for their faith. But the torturer himself, seeing the patience of the two martyrs and the miracles that occurred during the torture, accepted the faith of Christ, for which he was honored with a martyr's death.
Daria was so patient in torment that the pagans shouted: “Daria is a goddess!“ Chrysanthemum and Daria were stoned to death. A church was later built on the site where they were buried. The holy martyrs suffered for Christ in Rome in 284.

As for Naiden, child abandonment was the main common way among the poorer classes to give up a child they could not care for for adoption. Usually, they left the children at the door of wealthier people, or those who were known to have no children and would be happy. Rich or childless Christians considered this a gift from God and accepted the child.

Today is the name day of Daria, Darin, Darina, Chrysant, Chrysanti and Naiden.
