Lydia was wealthy, came from a very religious merchant family. The future saint was raised in the values of the Christian faith. When she heard about the crucifixion and subsequent resurrection of Jesus, she decided to dedicate herself to noble deeds.
She sheltered the Apostle Paul and his companions Luke and Silas in her home. When they left the city, the apostle himself wrote a letter of thanks, describing Lydia's kindness. Her home became a place of prayer, gathering Christians. The saint is also considered the patron saint of artists. In Bulgarian folklore, “Lida” means “spoiled maiden”.
