On this day, the Orthodox Church commemorates the death of St. Methodius the Slavonic Bulgarian, the older brother of the Slavic Equal-to-the-Apostles Constantine the Philosopher - St. Cyril, writes offnews.bg.
In his early youth, Methodius chose a military career and for 10 years ruled a Slavic region subject to the Byzantine emperor.
However, he felt God's calling, renounced his high position and entered a monastery on Mount Olympus - Asia Minor. After some time, his younger brother Constantine also came to him. From then on, they were inseparable until their death and together they accomplished the great and remarkable work - the creation of Slavic writing and Christian enlightenment among the Slavs. St. Methodius is also celebrated on May 11 together with St. Cyril.
April 6 also marks the Dormition of St. Echtychius. Holy Martyrs Timothy and Diogenes.
