The former England defender, Jamie Carragher, has admitted that he will not surprised if Gareth Southgate does not remain England coach, reported Topsport.
However, he admitted he would be happy if Southgate stayed and spoke about the football culture historically of the "three lions".
"I would like Gareth Southgate to stay but I will know if he leaves. All this criticism he's getting is huge. Who will succeed him? We are not a cup-winning nation - we are not Brazil. We have no history. Yes, that's what we want to change, but I don't see a lot of coaches at this point licking their lips and saying "Oh, I'll do that with England".
"The best coaches are at teams in the Champions League. They want to work there. In national football, it's all about the players. You can't buy others there and you work with what you have. Maybe another coach can get more out of this team, but you just have to win tournaments. We've only done this once in the last 100 years," the former Liverpool defender told Sky Sports.
"The best coaches don't lead national teams. The Spanish mentor is the perfect example of this. "Most people hadn't heard of him before the tournament," he said on the subject of the coaching position at the "three lions".
