The first racket of Bulgaria Viktoria Tomova was eliminated in the first round of the UTA 250 clay tennis tournament in the Hungarian capital Budapest with a prize fund of 232,244 euros, BTA reported.
Tomova, ranked number 2 in the scheme, lost to former world number 19 Alexandra Sasnovich (Belarus) 6:2, 2:6, 4:6 in 2:04 hours.
The Bulgarian took a 5-0 lead on her way to victory in the first set, but conceded six breaks in the next two sets and lost the match. In the decisive third part, Tomova had a lead of 4:2, but her opponent won four games in a row and reached the final success.
Tomova, who is 49th in the world, earned 1 point for the world ranking and 2512 euros from the prize pool.
Earlier today, the national team of Bulgaria for the "Billie Jean King cup" Gergana Topalova was eliminated in the first round of the competition.
The Bulgarian, who successfully went through the qualifications after two wins, lost to the number 4 ranked Spanish Sara Soribes Tormo with 6:4, 3:6, 5:7 in a match that lasted 3:29 hours.
