Jaime Lozano was fired as the head coach of the Mexico national team after falling out of the group stage of the Copa America, reported the football Federation of the country, BTA reported.
Losano was offered the chance to continue as an assistant until the 2026 World Cup before returning as head coach until the 2030s, but the 45-year-old rejected the offer, the outlet added.
Mexico will host the 2026 FIFA World Cup along with Canada and the United States.
"After the Copa America, we did an analysis to see where we made mistakes and where we were successful, to assess where we can improve. Jaime Lozano has been offered a contract until 2030, in which he will be assistant to a more experienced manager for the home World Cup between 2024 and 2026, the federation said in a statement.
"Losano has informed us that he does not wish to continue. We respect his decision, we recognize his great professionalism, capacity and dedication," the headquarters added.
The coach, who spent only one year in office, led Mexico to the title of the "Gold Cup" in 2023 and reached the final of the CONCACAF Nations League earlier this year, where the team was defeated by the USA.
The former Mexico international recorded 10 wins, 4 draws and 7 defeats during his spell in charge.
Local media claim Javier Aguirre will replace Losano as Mexico coach for his third stint after coaching the 2002 and 2010 World Cup squads.
