Carlos Alcaraz won his first title in the tournament of the "Masters 1000" series in Monte Carlo. In the final, he defeated the Italian Lorenzo Musetto with 3:6, 6:1, 6:0 in an hour and 46 minutes. Thus, Alcaraz won the 18th title in his career and the third in tournaments of this category on clay, BTA reports.
Unfortunately for tennis fans, however, the intrigue in the match disappeared somewhere in the second set. In the first Musetto, who reached the final of a "Masters" tournament for the first time, showed excellent tennis. The Italian won four games in a row to take a 4-1 lead and close out the opening set after 42 minutes on court.
However, Alcaraz became much more aggressive in his play at the beginning of the second set and quickly started piling up games. At that moment, it became clear that Musetti also had physical problems that limited his performance. The "Roland Garros" champion took the second set 6-1, and in the third set he did not give his opponent a game, with Musetti taking only four points in total in the final five games.
The victory adds 1,000 points to Alcaraz's assets and from tomorrow he will be number 2 in the world rankings. Musetti will also progress in it, climbing five places to 11th.
