We chose Varna because there should be a return to the years. But the first city after Sofia was Varna. And here is the moment to return to those years and say thank you to Varna. That is why we chose Varna to show that we have not forgotten the warm welcome from 1994. This was said in a special interview for BNT by Hristo Stoichkov. He will be part of the Bulgarian team, which will play a charity match today in our seaside capital.
At 6:00 PM at the "Spartak" stadium, the stars of the unforgettable American summer in 1994 will be on the field again. The fourth in the world will play against the veterans of the Republic of North Macedonia in a duel, the funds from which will be donated to the treatment of the victims of the tragic incident in a disco in the city of Kochani.
"The motive is a little different now. Because this is about charity. Over the years, we have experienced many things. But when my friends, our friends, our brothers, my colleagues, our colleagues experienced this horror in Macedonia, we as athletes and as people are obliged to help what happened there in Macedonia. Yes, the moment is very sad. It's just that whatever we do, it will be little. We children cannot bring them back. But, we can help those who need medication, who need psychologists, who need specialists," said Hristo Stoichkov.
"I want to thank all my colleagues who will come. They are already in Bulgaria. Let's make a celebration for the people of Varna, but also with half a heart knowing that the funds we will collect as charity will go to a cause that is for Macedonia", he added.
"I have always said that friendship has no price. You have to prove it. And all friends, with just one call, the word was yes. We don't make something out of some miracles, but when you go back to the memories, something becomes different, warmer in the heart. This will be our goal in time, to hold such events in Bulgaria two or three times a year. It could be some stadium that has two or three thousand, five thousand people. And we will go there because they were also involved in our successes in the years when we were athletes," the legend of Bulgarian football also shared.
Stoichkov also commented on the new CSKA stadium.
"I am sure that what has been undertaken as a commitment to CSKA, you see at what pace the stadium is being built and it will hopefully become a home for all army personnel. Pancharevo is being completed. The new base remains, which will be only for teenagers, where they will study, eat, sleep, and train. This is a big project. We are talking about something big. CSKA deserves it. CSKA must have a home," concluded Stoichkov.
