The head of AvtoVAZ Maxim Sokolov spoke through RBC about the new engine for Lada Niva, but did not specify which one model in question - Niva Legend or Niva Travel. It is possible that Sokolov had in mind both all-terrain vehicles.
This assumption is related to the information that appeared earlier about the unification of the chassis of the SUVs. In this case, Niva Legend and Niva Travel will get a 1.8-liter engine from Lada Vesta.
Its power will be reduced from 122 to 90 hp, but the torque will increase and make it run smoother in the range above 1500 rpm. Currently, Lada Niva Legend and Niva Travel are equipped with a 1.7-liter engine with a capacity of 83 hp.
This motor works in combination with a 5-speed manual transmission. At the end of the year, AvtoVAZ will launch the Lada Niva Sport, which will be equipped with a 1.6-liter Granta engine with a power of 118 hp.
