Tatra has discontinued the production of its most famous truck model, the T815. On February 25, the last copy of the famous truck rolled off the assembly line in the Czech city of Kopříbnica. This is reported by the Auto.cz website.
The final block was the Tatra T815-2 Terra with an extended four-door cabin. Soon this truck will become a special vehicle for Czech firefighters, but unfortunately more of it will not be made.
The Tatra T815 is a long-lived model, as it has been produced since January 1983. A total of 158,065 trucks were produced. Many of these trucks ended up in Bulgaria and can still be seen on our roads.
The design of the truck is quite atypical, but familiar for Tatra. The basis of the Tatra 815 is a support frame. For a long time, the model was equipped exclusively with air-cooled diesel engines, but later the models received Cummins, Deutz and MTU liquid-cooled diesel engines.
For 42 years, the Tatra T815 truck has received a large number of different versions and has undergone numerous modernizations. Racing versions of the model were also created, with which Karel Lopre won the famous Paris-Dakar rally six times.
In addition, it should be noted that a lot of military equipment was created on the chassis of the Tatra T815, which is also used in the armed forces of many countries.
