The head of the technical support department at ADAC listed three main problems that, in his opinion, are dangerous when changing winter tires to summer tires.
The first mistake is changing tires too early. In spring, there are sharp temperature changes: in the evening and especially at night, the temperature often drops significantly to near-zero values, and the grip on some sections of the road may be insufficient for summer tires, the specialist says.
He believes that tires should not be changed independently, since auto mechanics will not only change the tires, but also inspect them for damage, balance them and, if necessary, clean the wheel hubs from rust accumulated during the winter.
The expert also does not recommend driving with old tires, as this can cause aquaplaning, in which the car will suddenly lose grip when driving on wet pavement. In addition, rubber ages, and a tire that is more than five years old is not recommended.
