Benjamin Netanyahu: We will decide for ourselves how to defend ourselves - 1

I want to be clear - we will take our own own decisions and the State of Israel will do everything necessary to defend itself, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said today at a meeting with the foreign ministers of Germany and Great Britain, thanking David Cameron and Analena Berbock for their support. This is reported by Reuters.

Escalation will serve no one, not the security of Israel, not the many dozens of hostages still in the hands of Hamas, not the suffering population of Gaza, not the many people in Iran who are themselves suffering from the regime , or to the countries in the region who simply want to live in peace, said Analena Berbok.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has warned that even the smallest strike by Israel on Iranian soil will result in a "massive and harsh" answer. He pointed out that the attack over the weekend was limited and that if Iran wanted to carry out a larger attack, "nothing would be left of the Zionist regime.

Washington has said it plans to impose new sanctions targeting Iran's missile and drone programs in the coming days and expects its allies to follow suit.

The US, the EU and the G7 have announced plans to consider tougher sanctions against Iran, with the aim of mitigating possible actions by Israel.

As a reminder, earlier today David Cameron indicated that it is now clear that Israel plans to retaliate against the strikes that Tehran carried out on Saturday in response to an alleged Israeli airstrike.

Iranian missiles and drones fired on Saturday were mostly shot down by Israel and its allies and caused no deaths. However, Iran says it considers the matter closed, but will retaliate if Israel does so.
