Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni got a "slap in the face" from French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz after the two yesterday called for NATO-supplied weapons to be used on Russian territory, despite the Italian Prime Minister calling for "prudence" on the issue, the leader of the left-wing and populist "Five Star" Movement and former Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said today during a forum organized by the Italian news agency ANSA on the occasion of the European Parliament elections, BTA reports.
“Meloni dared to say that we should be more prudent, but he got a slap in the face from Macron and Scholz“, he said.
Recalling how the two leaders said that the weapons sent to Kiev “should be ready to strike Russian military targets“, Conte said: “We are entering World War III, but they don't want to tell us that“.
Conte is against providing more and more weapons to Kiev.
The former prime minister also said at the forum that “NATO should not be thrown into the trash can, but should be reformed and rethought“.
He recalled that he had disagreed with Macron when the French president “declared the brain death of NATO“.
