Spanish justice is investigating the wife of Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on suspicion of a number of violations of the law, including corruption, DPA and BTA reported.
The local court of the autonomous community of Madrid rejected an appeal by the prosecution against the opening of the investigation.
The court declared the investigation justified, upholding the decision of a Madrid judge who decided in mid-April to open an investigation against Sánchez's wife, Begoña Gómez, on suspicion of influence peddling and business corruption.

After the allegations against his wife came to light, Sanchez denied the allegations and threatened to resign from the post he has held since mid-2018.
He complained that he was being harassed by the right and the far right by any means possible. However, after five days of reflection, during which he canceled all his public engagements, Sanchez decided to remain in office.
The signal was filed in April by a private organization called “Manos Limpias“ (“Clean hands"). The organization accuses Sánchez's wife, who does not hold public office, of abusing her position to obtain public contracts.
For several years "Manos limpias“ campaigns for the right in Spain. She admits that her accusations against Gomez are based on media reports. The Spanish prosecutor's office and the police unit in charge of corruption crimes have found no evidence of illegal activity by Gomez in their investigations.
