The Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant, one of the largest in Europe, is currently facing safety challenges. Rafael Grossi, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), has warned about the compromised state of the plant's safety measures, TASS and News.bg report.

Grossi has emphasized that the stability of the plant is under threat, with all seven critical safety pillars affected in whole or in part.

Grossi pointed out that the ongoing hostilities have led to frequent power outages and attacks on the plant, further complicating the situation. These disturbances pose a risk not only to the physical infrastructure but also to the personnel working in the plant. Maintenance of safety systems, routine inspections and emergency response capabilities are under pressure, making plant operations increasingly uncertain.

Grossi met with a Russian delegation in Kaliningrad on May 28. During this meeting, he outlined the various threats to the nuclear plant identified by the IAEA. The dialogue underscores the international community's concern about the potential for a nuclear incident amid the ongoing conflict.

The situation at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant remains the subject of international attention, with the IAEA closely monitoring developments and advocating for the restoration of safety and security measures to protect the facility and prevent any nuclear accidents.
