Iran's parliament has proposed designating Canada's armed forces and security forces as a terrorist organization, in direct opposition to Canada's recent actions against Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which Canada has officially designated as a terrorist organization, IRNA reported, News.bg reports.
Canada's decision has sparked significant controversy, leading to a sharp reaction from Iran. In a joint response, 250 members of Iran's parliament criticized Canada's decision as unreasonable and in violation of international norms. They called on the Iranian Foreign Ministry to actively challenge and condemn Canada's position, using every available political and international avenue.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is a key component of Iran's military and security apparatus. Established after the 1979 Islamic Revolution, the IRGC encompasses various military branches, including the ground, air, and naval forces, which combine the roles of a traditional army with those of police and state security.
The IRGC is already designated a terrorist organization by the United States.
