Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is on his way to visit Russia, confirmed the foreign policy Kremlin adviser Yuriy Ushakov, according to reports from Russian news agencies and Reuters. The exact dates remain a secret, BTA reports.
Originally scheduled for November last year, Abbas' trip was postponed at the request of the Palestinian Authority. Russia has expressed great interest in helping resolve the conflict in the Middle East, stressing that peace depends on the creation of a Palestinian state. The visit could mark a key step towards achieving that goal.
Another visit highlighting Russia's diplomatic engagements is underway - that of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Russia.
Reports by RIA Novosti, citing Kremlin sources, suggest that Modi's trip could take place in July.
