Hungary officially received the rotating presidency of the European Union from Belgium, reported Agence France-Presse. broadcasts BTA. The ceremony demonstrated a spirit of cooperation and goodwill.
The handover ceremony was described by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán as taking place in a "welcoming atmosphere". Belgian Prime Minister Alexandre de Cro passed the baton of the EU presidency to Orbán, who assured that Hungary will carry out its duties impartially.
However, Hungary's assumption of the presidency has raised eyebrows among some EU member states. Some member states note Orbán's close ties to the Kremlin as potential sources of tension.
Also, the timing coincides with growing concern that the far-right may come to power in France.
Today, after handing over the presidency, Orban wrote on the social network "X":
"Everyone is fascinated that it is our turn to restore the greatness of Europe". The slogan of the Hungarian presidency is precisely "Let's make Hungary great again".

Orbán's government has already stated that it is ready to fulfill all obligations and assume all responsibilities arising from its mission of rotating EU presidency.
"We will act as an impartial mediator," said Hungary's Minister of European Affairs Janos Boka. "At the same time, Hungary will take advantage of being in the spotlight to highlight its vision for Europe and steer the ship in the right direction," he said, quoted by BTA.
