For a week of offensive in the Kursk region, Ukraine managed to seize 1,000 square kilometers kilometers of Russian territory, Kiev announced. The district governor confirmed that the Ukrainians control 28 Russian settlements.
On the seventh day since the beginning of the Ukrainian offensive in the Kursk region, Kiev gave information about the operation. According to Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Sirsky, the Ukrainian army controls about 1,000 square kilometers of Russian territory. The information was also published on the channel of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Telegram.
Syrsky: we are controlling the situation
According to Sirsky, the Ukrainian units continue their advance in the Kursk region and fulfill their tasks. "Battles are taking place practically along the entire front. The situation is under our control," he added.
In turn, Zelensky announced that the relevant authorities, including the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs and the services, were tasked with "preparing a humanitarian plan for the territory of the operation". Another of their tasks is to "prepare a clear and transparent strategy" for the return of Ukrainians from Russian captivity. The ministries of defense and the interior must draw up a list of the necessary actions on the Ukrainian side to obtain permission from the partners for Kiev to use long-range weapons to defend Ukrainian territory.
Zelensky: Kursk could be the final end of Putin's rule
In his evening video address, Zelensky recalled that from the Kursk region, Russia strikes the territory of Ukraine, in particular, the Sumy region. He also suggested that the Ukrainian offensive on Russian territory could herald the end of Vladimir Putin's rule, which began with the Kursk submarine disaster, as well as the end of his war against Ukraine.
"That's what always happens with those who humiliate people and trample on the rules. Russia brought war to others, now it is returning to her. "Ukraine has always wanted only peace, and we will definitely ensure peace," Zelensky added.
On the same day, Alexey Smirnov, Acting Governor of Kursk Oblast, stated in a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin that the Ukrainian army controls 28 settlements in Kursk Oblast. According to estimates in the media, this figure may be even higher.
The Ukrainian offensive in the Kursk region
From August 6, 2024, the Ukrainian armed forces are conducting a military operation in the Kursk region. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense and Russian propaganda channels in Telegram, Ukrainian troops have seized a section of the Russian border territory and have advanced more than 10 km in depth.
Battles are taking place in the Korenevsky and Sudzhansky districts, as well as in the Belovski district. It is the only point where natural gas from the Russian Federation enters the Ukrainian gas transmission system and is then transited to the EU. In addition, the Kursk nuclear power plant is located on the territory of the district.
