Billionaire Elon Musk pledged today to give away $1 million every day until the November election to someone , who will sign his online petition in support of the US Constitution, Reuters reported.
He didn't slow down and handed a check for $1 million to an attendee at his event in Pennsylvania aimed at mobilizing supporters of Republican Donald Trump. According to the organizers of the event, the winner is a man named John Drer.
"By the way, John had no idea. So please, no reason,'' the Tesla founder said as he handed Drer the check.
The decision is another example of how Musk is using his wealth to influence the tight presidential race between Trump and his Democratic rival Kamala Harris.
Musk founded the Political Action Committee "America" (America PAC) - a political action organization he created to support Trump's presidential campaign. The group is helping to mobilize and register voters in states that will decide the outcome of the election, but there are signs that it is having difficulty achieving its goals, Reuters noted.
The event in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, is the third in that state where Musk is casting the November election in a stark light and encouraging supporters to vote early and get others to do the same.
Today he said that if Harris wins, it will be the "last election," implying that the United States will no longer exist.
He also said that the two assassination attempts against Trump prove that he disrupts the status quo in a way that Harris will not, and that is why no one is trying to kill Harris.
"Killing a puppet is useless," Musk said.
The petition Musk is asking people to sign reads: "The First and Second Amendments guarantee freedom of speech and the right to bear arms. By signing below, I declare my support for the First and Second Amendments.
Trump, in turn, said that if elected, he would appoint Musk to head a commission on government efficiency.
