King Felipe VI visit to Valencia: Angry crowd boos him and calls him 'murderer' - 1

Spain's King Felipe VI was met with anger and boos by local residents during his visit to Valencia, badly affected by unprecedented floods, the BBC reports, as quoted by Focus.

In circulating video footage, an angry crowd can be seen shouting “murderer” and “shame“ addressed to the king and questions why measures were not taken to avoid the tragedy.

In the wake of Spain's worst flooding in decades, entire neighborhoods are covered in mud and littered with mangled cars and debris from the storm. More than 200 people have died, and rescue teams are still searching underground parking lots and tunnels for survivors and victims.

King Felipe and Queen Letizia visited Paiporta – one of the most affected cities. Footage shows the king making his way down a street as bodyguards and police clash with scores of protesters hurling insults.

The king's visit comes amid criticism from local residents of the authorities' response to the catastrophic floods.

On Saturday, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez sent an additional 10,000 soldiers, police and civil defense officials to the area – the army's largest peacetime deployment. He admitted that the reaction so far was “insufficient” and pointed out “serious problems and shortcomings” in dealing with the crisis.
