Pupils and students from fifty municipalities in the Spanish region of Valencia will stay in their homes today because of the danger of new heavy rains, BNR reported.

Learning from the tragedy of two weeks ago, when floods killed more than 200 people, authorities in Valencia and parts of Catalonia ordered transport restrictions.

The authorities in both areas have recommended that citizens work remotely, except for those who cannot be absent from their workplaces.

The restrictions will begin at 6:00 a.m. and will be in effect until midnight.

Citizens living in the affected areas will receive alerts from Civil Defense on their mobile phones.

In addition to classes, sports activities and day care centers have been suspended.

Two weeks after the tragedy in Valencia, King Felipe VI visited the area again. He met the contingents of the armed forces deployed in the flood-affected areas.

From the Jaime I military base in Betera, the king assessed the work of the Military Emergency Unit, the other teams, as well as the citizens as excellent: "Everyone is working beyond their capabilities, around the clock,”, he assured the media.

Against this backdrop, students across the country demonstrated in several major cities to express their solidarity with the victims and relatives of those who died in the floods.

In addition, spokespeople for the student organizations said they believed the storm was "not just a natural disaster, but a social crime".
