The US head of state Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump intend to work together to secure the release of Israeli hostages held in the Gaza Strip by January 20. This is reported by the American news portal Axios, citing sources, as quoted by Focus.

According to media interlocutors, Biden held a meeting in the Oval Office with relatives of Americans held hostage by the Palestinian group Hamas. The president has assured the families that he and Trump will work together to secure the release of the hostages before January 20, when the new president is inaugurated.

During a two-hour conversation with Trump, Biden offered to join efforts to reach an agreement between Israel and Hamas to return the hostages and cease fire in the Gaza Strip. According to the sources, Biden wants to use the remaining two months of his term to break the "prolonged impasse" in the Gaza negotiations. Trump probably wants to start his term with fewer international crises, the portal suggests.

According to US national security aide Jake Sullivan, the White House has sent a signal to the Trump team that it is willing to work together on the issue of the release of the hostages from Gaza.
