The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) announced that it has detained a commander of a special operations forces unit accused of revealing plans to the Russian military intelligence (GRU) on the activities of Ukrainian forces behind enemy lines, Reuters reported.

"The aggressor was mostly interested in intelligence data on sabotage and intelligence specialized operations of the Ukrainian Special Operations Forces (SSO) behind the front line in the Zaporozhye, Hessonian and Crimean directions,'' the SSU said in "Telegram".

According to the statement, the "mole", whose military rank corresponds to a lieutenant colonel, had access to information about planned routes, weapons and targets. Russian forces had a plan to use the intelligence to eliminate special forces soldiers on the front lines and in Russian-occupied parts of southern Ukraine.

Russian military intelligence has "activated" the unit's commander in the spring of this year, but he was recruited even before the full-scale invasion of Moscow in February 2022 through acquaintances in Russia, the SSU said.

Ukraine's Security Service noted that Ukraine's top military leadership was cooperating in the case and that the suspect could be sentenced to life in prison on treason charges.
