The High Prosecutor's Office in Novi Sad announced that 11 people were arrested in connection with the collapse of -early this month on a concrete visor at the railway station in the northern Serbian city, which resulted to the death of 15 people, Serbian media reported.

The detainees are suspected of committing criminal acts against public security, causing public danger and improper execution of construction activities, Beta Agency notes.

According to the prosecutor's announcement, these crimes are punishable by 2 to 12 years in prison.

State broadcaster RTS reported that among those detained were former construction minister Goran Vesic, his deputy in charge of rail transport Anita Dimoski, and former acting director of the Railway Infrastructure Company of Serbia Jelena Tanaskovic. Tanaskovic's predecessor in this post, Nebojsa Shurlan, was also detained.

Yesterday, Jelena Tanasković resigned, and Goran Vesić resigned as minister on November 5, but announced that he felt no guilt for the tragedy in Novi Sad.

On November 1, in Novi Sad, about 70 km from Belgrade, the visor collapsed at the entrance to the city's train station, killing 14 people and seriously injuring three others. Later one of the injured died.

In the announcement of the High Prosecutor's Office of Novi Sad, it is said that so far in the case of the collapsed concrete visor of the railway station in the city, 66 people have been questioned, and five more are yet to be questioned.

Several protests were held in Belgrade and Novi Sad with demands that those responsible for the tragedy bear their responsibility and that the detained protesters be released.
