Medvedev: Sanctions against Russia benefit the US, Trump is unlikely to lift them quickly - 1

Donald Trump, after taking office as US President, is unlikely to immediately remove all sanctions against Russia. These restrictions benefit Washington.

This opinion was expressed by the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev in an interview with the TV channel Al Arabia.

„I believe it is unlikely that the president-elect who takes office will immediately lift these sanctions. In addition, he insisted on a number of sanctions in a certain period”, the politician recalled in response to a question about whether Russia expects sanctions to be lifted after Trump takes office.

More specifically, the deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council explained, Trump wants to limit the supply of Russian gas to Europe and sell American energy resources there.

„In a sense, the end of sanctions is not in the interest of a number of sectors of the American economy. I don't know what Trump's reasoning will be, but it really needs to be done. "Only to restore normal economic cooperation," Medvedev stressed, speaking about the lifting of sanctions.
