German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced European partners will step up military support for Ukraine, underscoring commitment for stability and security in Europe. The statement was made after a meeting with the defense ministers of France, Great Britain, Italy and Poland in Berlin, Reuters reported, as quoted by Focus.
Discussions focused on preparations for possible changes in transatlantic relations after Donald Trump's return to the White House.
„Our goal should be to enable Ukraine to act from a position of strength,” Pistorius said.
He added that from January the coordination of Western military aid to Ukraine will be taken over by the NATO mission in Wiesbaden.
Poland calls for greater efforts
Polish Minister of Defense Władysław Kosyniak-Kamis noted that Europe should increase its efforts not only in support of Ukraine, but also for its own security.
„We must say clearly today – Europe must increase its efforts when it comes to helping Ukraine, but above all for its own defense,“ he emphasized.
Kosignak-Kamish added that awareness is needed in every European society about the challenges of the present, calling for an increase in defense spending and greater coordination between countries.
Strengthened role of NATO
The Berlin meeting is another step in the direction of strengthening European security and demonstrates Europe's readiness to assume greater responsibility in conditions of global changes and challenges.
