Ukraine and Poland reached an agreement on the search and exhumation of the victims of the Volyn massacre. This was stated by Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski at a press conference after a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Andriy Sibiga, quoted by Focus.

Search and exhumation activities

Sikorski confirmed that Ukraine will not prevent the Polish authorities from conducting search and exhumation work on Ukrainian territory. He announced that Ukraine is ready to positively consider applications to carry out these activities and will mobilize Polish institutions, such as the Institute of National Remembrance, to support the effort.

Cooperative Working Group

Andrey Sibiga added that a joint Ukrainian-Polish working group will be created to prepare practical mechanisms for conducting the search and exhumation activities. He emphasized that the purpose of this joint work is to resolve the controversial issues from the common past of both countries in the name of universal human values and the Christian spirit.

Support for the integration of Ukraine in the EU

Apart from the issue of the Volyn tragedy, Sikorski assured that Poland will support Ukraine in its efforts to join the European Union. He noted that Poland will use the period of its presidency of the Council of the EU to accelerate the integration process of Ukraine. According to him, Ukraine's membership in the EU is a strategic interest for Poland.

This agreement between the two countries is an important step in strengthening bilateral relations and expanding their cooperation in key areas such as historical reconciliation and European integration.
