Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fizzo held a telephone conversation with the newly elected US President Donald Trump, the main topic of which was the war in Ukraine. According to a release from the government press service, the conversation focused on Europe's expectations regarding the American position on the conflict.
"I am convinced that in Slovakia and throughout Europe there are huge expectations for the new American leadership to resolve the conflict in Ukraine," Fizzo declared.
He added that he confirmed to Trump his already expressed public positions on the matter.
Invitation by Vladimir Putin
The Slovak government press office also announced that Robert Fico has accepted the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin to participate in the May 9 celebrations in Moscow dedicated to the victory over Nazi Germany in World War II.
This move can be interpreted as a signal of Fico's intention to maintain pragmatic relations with Russia, despite the complex international situation related to the war in Ukraine and sanctions against Moscow.
