The European Parliament today called on the countries of the European Union to increase their military support for Ukraine by supplying German "Taurus" missiles, which have not yet been provided by Berlin, reports BTA.
In the resolution, which is not legally binding, MEPs express concern about the military aid Russia receives from Iran, Belarus and North Korea and call for new sanctions against these countries.
The resolution was approved with 390 votes "for", 135 votes "against" and 52 votes "abstained", stating that Russia has entered a new phase of the war after it began using the Oreshnik hypersonic missile. and receives aid from Pyongyang. MEPs demand new arms supplies to Ukraine, including long-range missiles like the "Taurus" and anti-aircraft systems such as the "Patriot" and SAMP/T.
Ukraine now has American "Patriot" and the Franco-Italian equivalent SAMP/T, but not in sufficient numbers to effectively defend its cities, especially after Russia delivered a major blow to the Dnipro with a "Oreshnik" on November 21.
Despite pressure from the European Parliament, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz remains against the delivery of Taurus missiles. for Ukraine, arguing that this could lead to an escalation of the conflict and turn into an open war between Russia and NATO.
