Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico of wanting to "help" his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin "make money to finance the war and weaken Europe," Agence France-Presse reported.
Zelensky spoke today, a day after Fico visited Moscow amid tensions over Russian gas supplies to Europe.
Ukraine has made it clear that it will not extend a "blue fuel" transit agreement expiring at the end of this year from Russia through its territory.
The Slovak prime minister, who is close to Putin and whose country is dependent on these supplies, criticized Kiev's decision, AFP notes.
Mr. Fico does not want to find solutions to replace Russian gas and guarantee Europe's "energy independence", Zelensky reacted angrily on the social network "Ex". The Ukrainian president reminded that his country "is losing people because of the war that Putin started (nearly three years ago), and he believes that such help for Putin is immoral".
Earlier today, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov did not comment on what potential solution Putin and Fico had discussed, limiting himself to saying that the situation with Russian gas supplies to Europe is very complicated.
