Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) said on Monday it had foiled a Ukrainian plot to assassinate a senior Russian officer and a pro-Russian military blogger with an explosive device hidden in a speaker, Reuters reported, BTA reported.
The FSB said a Russian citizen had contacted an officer from Ukraine's Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) via the "Telegram" messaging app. Following the instructions of the Ukrainian intelligence officer, the Russian citizen retrieved the explosive device from a cache in Moscow. The explosive device was hidden in a portable audio speaker.
The FSB did not release the names of the officer and the blogger whose assassination was planned. Reuters notes that it has not yet been able to contact GUR for comment on the subject.
