No electricity! Moscow has banned bitcoin mining in at least 10 regions of the Russian Federation - 1

On January 1, 2025, a decree of the Russian government came into force, banning digital currency mining in ten regions of the Russian Federation and restricting it in three more regions of the Russian Federation. The restrictions will be in effect until March 15, 2031. They are explained by the possible risks of energy shortages in these territories, TASS reported.

The ban has been introduced in Dagestan, Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia, North Ossetia, Chechnya, the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, Zaporizhia and Kherson regions.

In addition, in some territories of the Irkutsk region, Buryatia and Transbaikalia, mining is prohibited, but temporarily - during peaks in energy consumption. In 2025 they fall in the period from January 1 to March 15, and in subsequent years - from November 15 to March 15.

At the same time, the list of regions is not final - it can be adjusted based on the results of the decisions of the government commission for the development of the electric power industry in order to maintain the balance of energy consumption.

Earlier, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak admitted to increasing the number of regions in which mining will be prohibited if a corresponding request appears from the governors.
