The security spokesman for the main opposition party in Germany - the CDU (Christian Democratic Union) - Roderich Kiesewetter sees signs that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is preparing to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin before the parliamentary elections on February 23. Kiesewetter announced this on the social network "X", reports "Evropeyskaya Pravda".
The opposition German politician notes that "we must be prepared for the surprises of the election campaign".
"There are more and more signs that Chancellor Scholz will travel to Moscow or meet with Putin before February 23. For Ukraine, the implementation of these plans means, among other things, suspending the Paris Charter for 10-20 years. It will be indicative how the Ukrainian population or our neighbors will react to all this“, writes Roderick Kiesewetter.
He states that “the meeting between Trump and Putin is currently scheduled for March“ and “let everyone draw their own conclusions on this issue“.
In the election campaign, Olaf Scholz positioned himself as a “chancellor of peace”, who supports both Ukraine and negotiations with Russia and personally with Putin to end the war.
On the other hand, the CDU is leading in the election polls. CDU leader Friedrich Merz is considered the frontrunner to become Germany's next chancellor.
On November 15, it was reported that Scholz had spoken with the Russian president for the first time in two years.
