A fire broke out this morning at an acetone factory in the industrial zone of the city of Gatchina, Leningrad region, Reuters reported, citing Russian news agencies. Firefighters are working intensively to extinguish it, BTA reports.

Development of the incident

Initially, the area of the fire was 1,600 sq m, but it quickly expanded to 1,900 sq m, TASS reported, citing the press service of the Russian Emergencies Ministry. 50 firefighters, 12 pieces of equipment and a specialized fire train are involved in extinguishing the fire.

Air monitoring and no injuries

There are no reports of injuries as a result of the incident. At the same time, air quality monitoring is being carried out near residential areas to ensure the safety of residents.

The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time. According to information from Russian services, there is no evidence of the presence of Ukrainian drones in the area, which is located near St. Petersburg. The incident is under investigation while firefighting efforts continue.
