Ukrainian army detains 27 Russian servicemen in Kursk region - 1

The Ukrainian army announced today that it had detained 27 Russian servicemen in Russia's Kursk region, parts of which have been under the control of Ukrainian forces since August 2024, Agence France-Presse reported, quoted by BTA.

“In recent days, during fighting in the Kursk region, 27 Russian servicemen were detained“, reads a statement from the Ukrainian Air Force command on “Facebook“.

The message published a video showing men in uniforms gathered in a place resembling a village. They introduce themselves to the camera in Russian.

The detained servicemen are “officers, sergeants and privates“ from various units and Russian regions, including from the annexed Crimea, the Ukrainian army said in a statement.

“In the difficult fighting situation, they made the right choice - they voluntarily laid down their weapons, which saved their lives. All the wounded immediately received first aid“, the statement said. “We call on other Russian soldiers to surrender,“ the text added.

Ukraine also said it had recently captured several wounded North Korean soldiers in the Kursk region and offered Pyongyang to exchange them for Ukrainian prisoners of war held in Russia.
