Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said today that he expects the opposition to organize major violence on Saturday, March 15, and stressed that anyone who participates in it will be held accountable, the TANJUG news agency reported.
A new large student protest is planned for next Saturday in Belgrade, similar to those that took place earlier in Niš, Novi Sad, Kragujevac, BTA reports.
For several months now, students and citizens have been protesting in Serbia, demanding that those responsible for the collapse of the canopy at the Novi Sad train station on November 1, which killed 15 people, be held criminally liable. Among their demands is the publication of all documents related to the renovation of the railway station.
Representatives of the ruling party in Serbia, including President Aleksandar Vučić, have expressed the opinion that the protests are an attempt at a “color revolution“.
“Anyone who participates in this will be arrested. We may need 15 minutes, maybe an hour, maybe two. So the state will be able to act as a state (…) and we will only call on them to be peaceful, not to try to cause violence, but I know them and unfortunately I have always been right so far“, Vučić said today in response to a journalistic question.
At the same time, on March 14, 15 and 16, there will be a special session of the Assembly dedicated to the situation in Republika Srpska – the semi-autonomous part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, where Bosnian Serbs live mostly. The President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, will also be invited to the meeting, as announced earlier this month by the Speaker of Parliament, Ana Brnabić.
