A large Russian gunpowder plant in the Tambov region has been attacked, a Ukrainian official said, quoted by Reuters, without directly claiming responsibility for the attack and without specifying the consequences of the strike, BTA reports.
"The enterprise is one of the main suppliers of explosive materials to the army of the Russian Federation", wrote on "Telegram" the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation of Ukraine Andriy Kovalenko.
"With the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine, production at the plant has increased significantly", he specified.
Russia has not commented on the attack so far, Reuters notes.
Separately, the Ukrainian military reported that an attack with drones hit an oil base in the Liskinsky district of the Russian Voronezh region that night.
The governor of the Voronezh region, Alexander Gusev, said, quoted by TASS, that more than 10 drones were used to carry out attacks on three regions, with the majority of the strikes hitting the oil base in the Liskinsky district. The drones managed to break through the protective net surrounding the tanks.
"Currently, dozens of vehicles and two fire engines are fighting the fire in several tanks. Additional forces have been sent from two neighboring regions," the governor said, adding that there were no reports of injuries or threats to the population.
"According to available information, at least three attack drones hit the target. A large fire broke out at the scene," the Ukrainian military said in a statement on "Telegram".
The Russian Defense Ministry reported in its morning briefing that seven drones had been shot down over the Voronezh region. According to the department, they were "intercepted and destroyed" overnight. a total of 27 drones, including 15 over Belgorod region, three over Tambov region and two over Kursk region.
Earlier today, Russian authorities said that debris from falling Ukrainian drones had caused a fire at the facility. During the war, Ukraine and Russia have regularly attacked military facilities located deep inside each other's territory, Reuters notes.
