The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Albania Andriy Sibiha and Igli Hasani participated on Friday in an official ceremony in Kiev to exchange the acts of ratification of the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between the two countries, Ukrinform reported, quoted by BTA.
The ceremony was held as part of the first ministerial meeting Ukraine – Southeastern Europe in the Ukrainian capital, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The statement said that the treaty creates a basic framework for relations between Ukraine and Albania, based on mutual respect and trust, respect for international law and commitment to the principles of democracy.
„The signing of the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation is a historic event in our bilateral relations. Today we will open the Embassy of Albania in Ukraine. I am grateful to the Albanian side and my colleague Igli Hasani for their support for our country and for working together to strengthen our relations. All this will bring our cooperation to a new level“, said Sibiha.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry specifies that the document will be in force for ten years and will be automatically extended for another five years if neither side expresses its intention to denounce it.
The agreement was signed by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and the Prime Minister of Albania Edi Rama in Tirana on February 28, 2024.
